The philosophy of a business often reflects the experiences and interests of its founder. Rejuve Medspa has several core values, one of which is to “treat each person as unique individuals, celebrating their unique qualities rather than trying to standardize beauty.” After working 20 years in emergency medicine, owner Dr. Giao Kaplan made the shift to aesthetic medicine so she could do just that.
As a board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Kaplan managed acute medical issues. She found herself wanting to focus on prevention and wellness with a schedule that would allow her “to spend ample time with patients and to develop continuity of care and personal connections.” An added bonus would be the opportunity to combine her science background with her artistic talents and creativity.
Dr. Kaplan retired from emergency medicine and started working exclusively as an aesthetic physician. Less than a year later, she opened Rejuve Medspa in Newcastle Commons in February 2021. The medical spa offers a wide range of treatments and services, including anti-aging therapies, regenerative medical treatments, and body contouring. The team offers everything from scar and acne revision and hair restoration to cellulite removal and laser skin resurfacing.
Patient experience is at the top of Rejuve’s core values. “Every patient needs to feel special,” said Dr. Kaplan. “We provide a relaxing, comfortable environment in a spa-like setting.” Patients receive customized treatment options with the aim of achieving natural-looking results in the most efficient way. “We educate and engage patients so they can choose the best treatment options in order to achieve their aesthetic goals.”
As Medical Director, Dr. Kaplan prioritizes safety. “We place a strong emphasis on continuing medical education,” Dr. Kaplan shared. The staff stay current on technologies and treatments, thoroughly research their equipment and procedures, and choose products and devices that are “clinically proven to be efficacious based on clinical trials and FDA clearances.”
In addition to the team’s clinical expertise is the safety of the building itself. “Rejuve Medspa was designed and built during the height of the COVID pandemic with safety in mind,” said Dr. Kapan. Rejuve has a special ventilation system specifically designed to filter out bacterial and viral pathogens. Fans and vents in treatment rooms redirect air outside to prevent cross-contamination; though, in keeping with the spa environment, they are hidden behind wood-slatted ceilings.
When asked what she enjoys most about her job, Dr. Kaplan said that she appreciates “interacting and building personal connections with clients and understanding and treating their aesthetic goals.” That sense of connection expands to her staff. “Every member of the Rejuve team is equally valued. We are dedicated to helping one another thrive, learn, and grow.”
Choosing to locate Rejuve Medspa in Newcastle was not a coincidence for Dr. Kaplan. From 2006 to 2013, she and her family lived in the China Falls neighborhood and “we fell in love with the Newcastle community.” Her aspiration to become “known as Newcastle’s premiere destination for healthy skin and body.”
Outside of her career, Dr. Kaplan enjoys architecture and design, drawing, painting, and gardening. Her favorite activity is spending time with her family – her husband Andy and her daughter Zoe and son Anders. Between hip hop dance, Tae Kwon Do and more, the kids keep their parents busy. Together, they enjoy family gatherings and traveling.

how does EMSCULPT neo work?
Emsculpt NEO has taken body sculpting to the next level. Not only does it build muscle, it also eliminates fat and tightens skin at the same time. Using High Intensity Focused Electromagnetic Energy (HIFEM) to contract muscles about 20,000 times during a 30 minute session, Emsculpt NEO has been clinically shown to reduce fat on average of about 30%, while increasing the thickness of muscle by 25% after 3 sessions.

Emsculpt NEO feels like intense muscle contractions combined with warm heat. Your provider can titrate the intensity of the muscle contractions and heat based on individual needs and comfort levels. The HIFEM contractions are equivalent to doing 20,000 sit-ups in 30 minutes. You might have mild muscle soreness after Emsculpt NEO, but most people do not. This is because Emsculpt NEO alternates between intense contractions and tapping which helps to release lactic acid build up in the muscles caused by the intense contractions.
Emsculpt NEO is non-invasive, safe, and comfortable. For optimal results, a series of 4 treatments, 5-10 days apart is recommended. We also recommend that you drink 2 liters of water the day before and 1.5 liters of water on the day of treatment to help improve the elimination of dead fat cells through your lymphatic system. IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME WITH EMSCULPT neo?
There is no downtime with Emsculpt NEO. You can get back to your normal activities right away. However, since you are receiving 20K supramaximal muscle contractions in a 30 minute session, your treated muscles will benefit from rest the day before, the day of and the day after your treatment in order to focus on efficiently building muscle fibers. Excessive workout of the treated muscles can lead to muscle fatigue which will not set the most optimal conditions for successful muscle building. Cardio workout, and weight-lifting other muscle groups should be fine in conjunction with Emsculpt NEO.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS WITH EMSCULPT neo?
Clinical studies have shown that results can be seen within a month and can continue to improve for up to 3-6 months. Results remain stable for about a year without change in diet or exercise. It is recommended that you maintain a well-balanced healthy diet and routine exercise regimen.
How does Emsculpt NEO compare with Cooltone or Coolsculpting?
